Minissha covers up
Mumbai: She might have flaunted a bikini and turned heads in Kidnap but actor Minissha Lamba is not ready to do the same thing soon. Now, she has geared up to play a village girl in a completely deglamorous role in Shyam Benegal’s next Well Done Abba — a political satire on the lines of Welcome to Sajjanpur.
Talking about the movie that’s set in south India, Minissha says, “It’s a tongue-and-cheek take on the political system and the setting is merely incidental as the film is not about south Indian politics.”
She adds, “I’m playing a village girl and so the Kidnap look is definitely not a part of it. I took on this role because I was dying to work with Shyam Benegal. It is a great opportunity for me. Every actor has a wish-list of directors he/she aspires to work with and Shyam babu was always on mine.”
Ask her why she went off radar post Kidnap as she could be hardly spotted eating out or clubbing or even at events, Minissha says, “I withdrew into a shell because the film did not work. I was scared to face the world. But once you live through this phase, you learn from it and come out stronger. Today if I encounter another failure, I won’t react like I did after Kidnap.”
But has she bottled up her sexy avatar too, as even her steamy look couldn’t translate the film into a success story? “Absolutely not! The look will come out when required. But in real life I don’t relate to the role I played in Kidnap. The closest any character has been to my real life was the one I played in Shaurya,” she ends.
