No diction workshops for Minissha
Unilke most actors, who take to pre-shoot workshops to get into the skin of their character, Minissha Lamba is one person who believes in getting it right the first time itself. So, when it came to delivering her dialogues in the Dakhni dialect for Shyam Benegal’s Well Done Abba, the petite actress did not undergo any workshops. In fact, all the dialogues, sprinkled with the local Hyderabadi dialect, were presented to her in the script beforehand.
Talking about her state of mind, Minissha says, “I was petrified about getting the dialect right until about one day before the shoot. But once we started shooting at Ramoji Rao Studios in Hyderabad, things progressed quite smoothly. In fact, we even had a local dialogue coach to help us deliver our dialogues in a more realistic, natural manner.”
Ask her whether co-actor Boman Irani, who plays her father and a chauffeur in the film, was equally anxious about the dialogues and she says, “Boman too had to gain mastery over the dialect. But he is such a natural actor; you can make him do just anything.” Minissha, who’s playing a village girl in the film, will be seen in a rustic avatar with all of her costumes stitched from materials procured from the local market.
