For Minissha Lamba, it’s a dog’s world
Mumbai: Minissha Lamba is the latest in the list of celebrities to have come forward to do something for the cause of animals. Minissha Lamba has taken up the international issue of cruelty to animals in a big way and she is advocating people to stop using dogs as bait while shark- fishing. She is also looking to team up with various associations to do her bit to try and protect the species.

“I have learnt that dogs and even cats are used as baits in several countries for shark-fishing. This is a clear case of cruelty to these species and I’m looking to do my bit for it. I don’t have any concrete plan as of now but I’m using the Internet as a medium to spread awareness at the moment,” she said.
Meanwhile, Minissha is ecstatic about the response her new movie Well Done Abba is getting at film festivals across the world. The movie directed by Shyam Benegal will see Boman Irani in a double role.
“It is completely a Boman Irani movie. He has done a commendable job in the film. I signed the movie because it is a Shyam Benegal film and I was dying to work with him. The film isn’t similar to Welcome to Sajjanpur in any way as many people are speculating. People need to see it for themselves to decide and pass judgement,” she says.
Though Minissha has been part of acclaimed movies like Yahaan, Honeymoon Travels and Bachna Ae Haseeno, she hasn’t been very lucky when it came to box office glory. We asked her if she ever felt frustrated about not getting her due.
“Success is a very relative term and I’m still very new in the industry. I’m hoping I will taste better results in the years to come,” she said.
Minissha yearns for a beach vacation
“I’m dying to go on a vacation – some place where I can dive into the blue ocean water and sunbathe. I have had a lot of commitments lately so it was hard to take out time for a holiday,” Minissha told IANS.
The actress, who was the showstopper for designer duo Hemant-Nandita, says she went into the holiday mood as soon as she slipped into the designers’ chic resort wear collection, inspired by “a vacation in Ibiza”.
“After wearing this dress, I really think I want to go to Ibiza without all the stress of work,” said Minissha, who walked the ramp confidently in a colourful, flowy dress with prominent work on the neckline.
“I really like what Hemant and Nandita have done because no one in India used to treat beach wear and resort wear as a legitimate couture line. And their line offers everything – from swimsuits to flattering gowns with work for a classy dinner at a resort,” she added.
After her glamorous avatar in “Kidnap”, Minissha is now waiting for the release of Shyam Benegal’s comedy “Well Done Abba”, in which she stars alongside Boman Irani and Sammir Dattani.
“It is a political satire based in a village – it’s a very different movie. It has its message to it but it isn’t preachy or moralistic,” said the actress who made her debut with off beat film “Yahaan”.
The film is inspired by two short stories – “Narsaiyyan Ki Bavdi” by Jeelani Bano and “Phulwa Ka Pul” by Sanjeev, and is produced by Reliance BIG Pictures. It revolves around a Mumbai-based driver who takes a month’s leave to find a groom for his teenage daughter.
Asked if the movie is a conscious effort to experiment with the kind of cinema she has been used to, Minissha said: “There’s no conscious effort. I have always loved whatever I have done.”
Minissha was also seen in “Bachna Ae Haseeno” with Ranbir Kapoor.

Will be back as the new face of a skincare brand; her first appearance in months
Minissha Lamba will be back in the limelight after a long break. The actress is on the lookout for substantial roles after Kidnap and recently signed on to endorse a line of skincare cream.

Talking about her latest endorsement Minissha says, “I am really excited to get on board with this line of products. Before signing on the dotted line, I sat down with their team and read everything about the brand. It was only after being totally convinced that it was the right thing to do, I go ahead.”
Adding that she can identify with this brand she says, “It’s basically a range of products for the youth. It’s an age group I can relate to so it was easier for me to get on board. It has everything from daily skin care to advanced products.”
In the past there was buzz that she had reused to endorse another skin care brand for an anti-ageing cream and was replaced with some other actress. However, a close friend reveals that Minissha was never approached to sign on that particular brand.
Minissha is looking out for more work and is thrilled with the response she’s getting for Shyam Benegal’s Well Done Abba. “I definitely want to do more work and something that interests me. It was a learning experience to work with a stalwart like Shyam Benegal. I am really waiting for the audience to see that film.”

In all, the inauguration of jewellery designer Praveen Goel’s store, Shri Raj Mahal Jewellers at Karol Bagh recently, was an event high on the glam quotient. Needless to say, brothers Ashok Goel, Praveen Goel and Pradeep Goel were a happy bunch.
Talking about his designs, Praveen Goel said, “My collection is made up of traditional Indian jewellery with a modern touch. There’s a lot of mix and match work. There are diamonds set in gold, gold with kundan, meenakari work, etc. While Western influences in design might be getting prominent, traditional Indian jewellery is still preferred by most women.”
Minissha Lamba at Kolkata Fashion Week
Kolkata Fashion Week-II was every inch full of style, glamour and glitter as it saw famous Bollywood hotties like Sameera Reddy and Minissha Lamba set the ramp afire with their dazzling presence. Sameera was the show-stopper for Neeta Lulla’s bridal collection and she made the head turns as she sashayed the ramp in a red lehenga.

“I think Neeta’s Indian wear rocks and when I get married she is going to make me the best bridal outfit ever. It’s going to be the style statement of the century,” said Sameera.
Minissha Lamba show-stopped for designer duo Monapali and she had loads of praises for the KFW as she was seen attired in a traditional embroidered ghagra-choli.
“There’s been an astronomical change in the KFW event in just six months time. It’s transformed a lot from the maiden KFW show (held in April),” said Minissha adding, ”This time I can see that it’s more professional and equivalent to any fashion show held in Mumbai or New Delhi. It’s as good and organised as that.”
