WELL DONE ABBA is all set for release and Minissha is expectedly excited about the film which would be her first release since KIDNAP (2008).

“At the heart of it, WELL DONE ABBA is about a father-daughter relationship in a village setup. However, I play an educated girl in the film. Shyam babu is very pro-education of girl child; this is something that he feels very strongly about. He wanted this character to be someone who stands on her own. Also, since the film is a political satire, the subject had to be handled quite carefully”, says Minissha who has mostly played a city girl in her earlier films like BACHNA AE HASEENO, KIDNAP and HONEYMOON TRAVELS PVT. LTD, to name a few.

This is where decades of experience that Shyama Benegal carries in film making came in handy.

“A dialogue coach was present on the sets right through the film so that was of great help. Moreover, there were other reference points also shared with us which helped us get into the feel of the character and the ambience we were in”, says Minissha.

The film is a story of Armaan Ali (Boman Irani), a driver working in Mumbai. He takes leave for a month to find a husband for his teenage daughter (played by Minissha) but returns to work only after 3 months. When his young employer tries to sack him, Armaan narrates the reason that led to his delay, which forms the crux of WELL DONE ABBA.

With Boman Irani playing the title role of ‘Abba’ and Minissha Lamba as his daughter, the film also stars Sameer Dattani (as Minissha’s love interest), Ravi Kishan, Ila Arun, Salim Ghouse, Sonali Kulkarni, Rajit Kapoor, Yashpal Sharma and Ravi Jhankal. A BIG Pictures production, the film has lyrics by Swanand Kirkire, Ila Arun and Ashok Mishra with music by Shantanu Moitra. WELL DONE ABBA is releasing all over on 26th March 2010.

It appears that being a perfectionist is not limited to the likes of Aamir Khan. Film maker Shyam Benegal too has strived for perfection in each of his films released so far and this was apparent in the manner he instructed the cast of his film to not just get the mannerisms right but also the language. Minissha Lamba, who plays a principal protagonist in his upcoming directorial outing WELL DONE ABBA, was in for some hard work as she had to learn a new language, Dakini, to get the feel and mood perfect for the role of a small town girl that she plays in the film.

“Since I am playing a village girl for the first time in my career, it was anyways a new environment for me. Moreover, the setting of the story is somewhere in the interiors of Andhra Pradesh. I was required to learn the Dakini language and also get my Urdu right. You know, there is this entirely different way in which Urdu is spoken in Andhra Pradesh and working with Shyam babu means that you have to be constantly on toes”, smiles Minissha as she remembers the months gone by.

Minissha Lamba is on cloud nine – last month, she finally bought her first house, a three-bedroom flat at Raj Classique in Andheri, where Bollywood celebrities Priyanka Chopra, Shahid Kapoor, Abbas Tyrewala and Satish Kaushik will be her neighbours.

Says an excited Minissha, “I have been house hunting for the last six months. I had scanned the whole of Yari Road, Four Bungalows and the Versova stretch, but couldn’t find what I wanted.

I was so tired by the exertion that at one point I thought of just giving up. However, I never thought of looking in this building because I never thought it would have a flat for sale. It was sheer chance that I happened to see this flat. The moment I saw it, I fell in love with it. Being single in the city, it is very important to have your own place. I am planning to do the interior design myself.

The first promo of Shyam Benegal’s next movie, Well Done Abba, is out and has generated good response.

And no one is happier about this than Minissha Lamba, who will be seen on the big screen after a long time.

“There has been great response to the promo. We had decided not to reveal the look of the film in the first trailer and decided to go in for animation instead,” she says.

“The film is a comedy with the insightful vision of Shyam Benegal. It dissects the situations around us in a humorous way. The title Well Done Abba is a play on words. To know why, you’ll have to watch the film,” she says.

Well Done Abba is a political satire and has already got a great response across various film festivals in India and abroad where it was screened.
